Guide to MyCROCEMENT™ Installation

The MyCROCEMENT™ Guide to Installation provides a complete step-by-step system for installing microcement across residential and commercial surfaces. Follow each stage in order for consistent, professional results.

The same five/six-stage process is used across all installations to ensure durability, performance, and a seamless finish.

Before You Begin

Successful installation depends on proper preparation. Review the entire process before starting.

Tools & Materials

  • Tape measure
  • MyCROCEMENT™ Primer – MyPRIMER (Kit 1)
  • Fiberglass Mesh (if required or desired applied with MyBASE to be purchased separately)
  • MyCROCEMENT™ Reinforcement Coat – MyBASE (Kit 2) if required or desired including fiberglass mesh
  • MyCROCEMENT™ Finish Coats – MyCROCEMENT™ (Kit 1)
  • MyCROCEMENT™ Sealer – MyGUARD (Kit 1)
  • Trowel (steel or plastic)
  • Sandpaper (various grits) (or sander, preferably with vacuum in HEPA system)*
  • Vacuum
  • Roller and brushes
  • Drop cloth and tape
  • Protective Wear (at least N95 mask for sanding, safety glasses and gloves)

  • Surface evaluation & preparation

  • Base coats for reinforcement (if required or desired)
  • Finish coats
  • Sealing & protection

Most projects take 2–3 days for very light use, more regular use after 7, and full cure reached after approximately 30 days.


Step-by-Step Installation Process

Step 1: Evaluate → Step 2: Prep → Step 3: Prime → Step 4: Base (Optional) → Step 5: Finish → Step 6: Seal

1. Surface Evaluation

  • ☐ Surface is structurally stable
  • ☐ No loose or flaking material
  • ☐ Major repairs completed and cured
  • ☐ Surface is dry and ready for coating

2. Surface Preparation

  • ☐ Surface cleaned and degreased
  • ☐ Dust and debris fully removed
  • ☐ Old coatings or loose paint removed
  • ☐ Minor cracks repaired
  • ☐ Apply protective tape before each coat, remove it while the coats are still wet, and retape with fresh tape before applying the next layer.

3. Priming

  • ☐ Primer applied evenly
  • ☐ Primer fully dry before continuing
  • ☐ Corners and transitions reinforced

4. Base Coats & Reinforcement (if required or desired)

  • ☐ 2 Base coats applied in thin layers
  • ☐ Mesh fully encapsulated
  • ☐ Light sanding* between coats
  • ☐ Surface cleaned before next layer

5. Finish Coats

  • ☐ 2 finish coats applied with controlled pressure, ensuring coats are not applied too thickly, as excessive thickness can affect proper drying and cause cracking
  • ☐ Texture is consistent and intentional
  • ☐ Light sanding* performed if needed
  • ☐ Surface fully dry before sealing

6. Sealing & Protection

  • ☐ Surface clean and dust-free before sealing
  • ☐ Sealer applied in 2 thin coats
  • ☐ Proper dry time between coats
  • ☐ Surface protected during curing

Care & Maintenance:
Once fully cured, the sealant provides excellent durability and stain resistance. Like stone, marble, and other high-end finished surfaces, spills should still be wiped up as soon as possible to help prevent staining or surface damage.

Allow approximately 7 days for a full cure before subjecting the surface to heavy use. Maximum hardness and full mechanical strength are reached after 30 days. Check Drying and Curing Times.


Any layer not fully cured, will inhibit adhesion of subsequent layers!

Carefully remove any dust or debris before applying any layer!

Surface stability and proper preparation are essential for all coating systems. MyCROCEMENT™ simplifies everything beyond that—follow each step in order for consistent professional results.

Why do I need to remove the tape while the microcement is still wet?

If the MyCROCEMENT™ dries over the tape, it creates a continuous shell. Pulling the tape once dry will chip, crack, or tear the edges of your finished coat instead of leaving a crisp line. Remove immediately or while the material is still soft and workable.

Do I really need to reapply new tape for every single layer?

Yes. Reusing tape allows dried MyCROCEMENT™ bits on the edges to drag across your new coat, creating unsightly scratches, uneven lines, or poor adhesion along the borders.

What type of tape works best for MyCROCEMENT™ application?

A high-quality, painter’s tape with medium to low adhesion works best. It provides clean line definition without damaging underlying painted surfaces or freshly cured base layers.

Can I apply thicker layers than the total 2-3 mm?

No, a thicker layer will affect drying times by extending them unpredictably, weaken the coating and potentially causing cracking. If necessary, let dry and sand down (using at least a N95 protective mask) to the appropriate thickness.

Can MyCROCEMENT™ be applied over existing tiled or laminate surfaces?

Yes, provided the substrate is properly prepped, fully clean, structurally sound, and primed with an appropriate bonding agent before application.
